Problem Discription: Lakes and Rivers are vital sources of fresh water, supporting millions of people, wildlife and plants. However many lakes and rivers around the world are becoming increasingly polluted by plastic waste, untreated sewage, and agricultural runoff. This pollution threatens drinking water sources and aquatic biodiversity. It matters because it (i.e., polluted water) causes health risks, economic losses and ecosystem destruction. We are unable to decrease the polluted water in lakes and rivers because in many countries particularly in Africa and Asia, they lack of wastewater treatment systems. They have weak environmental regulations and enforcement. The recent survey about quality of water tells that about 46% of monitored rivers were identified as polluted. The data analysis on pollution of water reports that over 40 million liters of wastewater enter rivers daily. The case-study in 2019-2020 revealed that the chemical industry alone released 30,984 metric tonnes of waste into the water bodies. While some improvements has seen in some areas, like doing some clean-up projects and awareness campaigns but they are not widespread or sustainable and overall water pollution remains a serious issue.
